Construction ERP vs Project Management Software
Procore and InEight are not ERPs, and an ERP is not a field tool. How the two categories differ, and when you need both.
Construction ERP and construction project management software overlap, but they solve different problems.
What an ERP does
An ERP runs the company: general ledger, payroll, procurement, inventory, equipment and project cost in one database. Construction ERPs add BOQ, progress billing (IPC), retention, subcontracts and variations.
What project management software does
Tools such as Procore and InEight manage documents, RFIs, submittals, schedules, quality and field work. They rely on a separate system for accounting and payroll.
When you need both
Larger contractors often run a PM platform for site and document control and an ERP for finance. If you choose this route, check that the two integrate for commitments, change orders and payment applications.
